My Dad George Veness died at the age of 67 after being married to my Mum for almost 10 years. He worked on a building site just over the way from where we lived in London. I was 8 when he died so don't remember much, but what I do remember is all good. We used to have water fights with my friends in the summer and me and Dad used to make matchstick pictures and we would sit there for hours. I was definately a Daddys girl, he was my Idol and I wanted to be just like him when I grew up.
Dad had emphasemia which I think is some kind of Lung disease, and he was always in and out of hospital.
On 16 December 1983 dad was due to come home from hospital to speand christams with us when he had a piece of chocolate, (My dad loved chocolate) because of his condition he was told not to eat it. Well this particular day he did and he started coughing, he then had a coughing fit and his heart gave up.
My school teacher told me my Dad had died as I was at school at the time. We were planning on coming to Wickford to visit my Aunt for the weekend so all 3 of us could have a break from the Brixton Riots.
I remember Mum and me feeling devastated it was going to be the worst christmas ever. A year later we moved to Wickford to live with my Aunt ( My Mums Sister) where I grew up with 2 MUm's if you like. Then Auntie Daisy died on 07 November 2005.
My Mum passed away in April 2007 and since then I have found out that I have brothers and sisters as my Dad had another wife previous to marrying my Mum at St Anselms Church Kennington, London..
I still miss him like mad even after all these years but I also regret that I wasn't told about this sooner as I always thought I was an only child.
I don't blame him or my Mum for not telling me there must have been a good reason.
As far as I know my Dad was an only child so I don't know any family on his side only Mum's as she was the youngest of 13 children.
I will always love him coz he's my Dad and always will be, wether he is with the Angels or here on earth he will always be in my thoughts.
